Terms of service
Draft · September 19, 2026
These Terms govern your use of Hitch at playhitch.com, its public API, and its game widget (the "Services"). They are an agreement between you and Scott Rosenkrantz, the operator of Hitch ("Hitch," "we," or "us"). By using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information. Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Playing Hitch
Hitch is currently free to play and does not require an account. You may use it for personal, noncommercial enjoyment. If you are below the age of legal adulthood where you live, a parent or guardian should review and agree to these Terms on your behalf.
Browser progress is saved on your device and may be lost if you clear site data, switch browsers, or change devices. The assistant widget is designed not to save progress between sessions. We do not guarantee that lost progress can be restored.
Our content and your permission to use it
We or our licensors own the rights in Hitch's original code, artwork, written content, and other protected materials. The Hitch name and branding may also be protected by trademark law. We do not claim exclusive ownership of ordinary words, facts, or game ideas.
You may play the game and share your own results, including through the share button. Except for that permission, the API permission below, or uses allowed by law, you may not copy, scrape, redistribute, sell, or create a competing collection from our protected game content without permission. Nothing here restricts rights you have under applicable law.
The public API and assistant widget
We provide a public, read-only API for retrieving puzzles and rules. You may use it to let people play Hitch, including through AI assistants, and retrieve and display the official widget unchanged for that purpose. You may make the technical copies needed to deliver that experience and keep Hitch's branding and notices intact.
This permission does not allow bulk harvesting of our puzzle collection, resale of our content, or presentation of the game as your own. Do not use the API to bypass access restrictions, disrupt the service, or exceed applicable request limits. Follow the limits and integration instructions in the current API documentation.
We may update, limit, suspend, or discontinue API access for operational, security, legal, or abuse-prevention reasons. We will provide advance notice of significant changes where reasonably practicable.
Fair use
Do not attack or overload Hitch, introduce malicious code, attempt unauthorized access, bypass security or rate limits, or use the Services unlawfully. We may restrict access where reasonably necessary to address these activities. Contact support@playhitch.com if you believe access was restricted in error.
Third-party platforms
AI assistants and other platforms have their own terms, privacy practices, and technical limits. We do not control those services or guarantee that they will always support Hitch. Using Hitch in another platform does not imply that the platform endorses or sponsors Hitch.
Hitch is an independent game and is not affiliated with or endorsed by other word games or their publishers.
Availability and changes to the game
We may fix errors, revise puzzles, change features, or stop providing part or all of the Services. We aim to give reasonable notice of a permanent shutdown where practicable, but outages or urgent security changes may occur without advance notice.
If we introduce paid features, their price and applicable purchase terms will be disclosed before you choose to buy them. These Terms do not authorize any charge.
Disclaimers and liability
We try to keep Hitch useful and reliable, but cannot promise uninterrupted availability or error-free puzzles. To the extent permitted by law, the Services are provided "as is" and "as available," without implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses arising from your use of the Services. This exclusion does not apply to fraud, willful misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability that cannot legally be excluded. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.
Governing law and disputes
California law governs these Terms, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules. If you live elsewhere, you retain the mandatory consumer protections and rights to bring claims in local courts that apply to you.
If there is a dispute, please contact support@playhitch.com so we can try to resolve it. Contacting us is not a condition of exercising your legal rights. These Terms do not require private arbitration or waive class-action rights.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms and will revise the date above. We will give reasonable notice of material changes on the website or through another appropriate method before they take effect, unless an urgent legal or security reason requires faster action. We will seek renewed agreement where required by law. Changes will not retroactively remove accrued rights.
If you disagree with updated Terms, you can stop using Hitch. If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
